While the Jonglei Peace Initiative Program (JPI) is hailing its latest peace workshop in Canada to “equips Diaspora participants with tools for peace building back home”, there is a new report today of Murle attacking Nuer in Jonglei State; people killed and children abducted. This is despite the last round of the statewide disarmament program among the Nuer, Dinka, Anyuak and the Murle. If disarmament and peace initiatives are not enough to stem the cycle of violence in Jonglei, what would?

Chagas, a tropical disease spread by insects, is causing some fresh concern following an editorial—published earlier this week in a medical journal—that called it “the new AIDS of the Americas.”

More than 8 million people have been infected by Chagas, most of them in Latin and Central America. But more than 300,000 live in the United States.

The editorial, published by the Public Library of Science’s Neglected Tropical Diseases, said the spread of the disease is reminiscent of the early years of HIV…………

ADDIS ABABA– Peace talks between Sudan and South Sudan are said to be yielding slow progress despite reports of fresh clashes on the ground and questions about Sudan’s withdrawal from the disputed Abyei region.  Tensions were high as the latest round of negotiations opened with a South Sudanese demand for sanctions against Khartoum. The second day of African Union-mediated talks Wednesday began three hours late.  Diplomats said negotiating teams were scrambling to organize their positions.

South Sudan’s chief negotiator Pagan Amum told reporters the initial discussions are limited to basic procedural issues. “We will be presenting the steps we are required to take, and they are required to take, and the steps jointly we are required to take,” he explained. “This will be presented in a matrix for agreement and then agreeing on a timeline for when to implement them, with the aim of respecting the timelines as indicated in the Road Map and the Security Council resolution.”

A previous round of talks broke down last month as fighting raged along the disputed border.  The chief AU mediator, former South African president Thabo Mbeki, said at the time the neighbors had descended into a state of war.

Fears of a return to war prompted the U.N. Security Council this month to approve resolution 2046.  The resolution orders the feuding neighbors to stop fighting, withdraw forces from the disputed and oil-producing Abyei region, and return to the negotiating table.

South Sudan pulled its last 700 police officers out of Abyei by last Tuesday’s deadline.  As the current round of talks got underway, the United Nations certified that Khartoum had pulled its troops out, too.   But well-informed diplomatic sources say an unspecified number of Sudanese police remain in Abyei.

South Sudan’s Pagan Amum says Khartoum should be hit with U.N. sanctions for multiple violations of the Security Council resolution.

“The government of Sudan did not withdraw from Abyei within the two weeks as required.  This is a violation,” Amum stated. “We also asked the representative of United Nations to report this violation, and this non-compliance by the republic of Sudan, and we expect Sudan to suffer sanctions and measures from the Security Council as promised.”

Despite the strong words, Amum described this week’s meetings as “good” and said he is ready to continue.

Khartoum’s delegation has declined to speak to reporters since the talks began.  Instead they issued a statement stressing their commitment to reach a negotiated settlement on all issues, and promising “full adherence to peace and stability.”

South Sudan broke way from Khartoum last July after decades of conflict, leaving unsettled a series of bitter disputes over borders, citizenship and sharing of oil revenues.

Oil is the backbone of both countries’ economies, and both have suffered since South Sudan shut down production in January, accusing Sudan of stealing oil that traveled through northern pipelines.  Sudanese authorities said the oil was taken in lieu of payment of fees it was owed by the south.

ICC Judges sentence Charles Taylor to 50 years

ICC and Africa: Acrimonious Relationship

What will Africans make of this 50-year jail term sentence handed down on the Former Liberian President, and an ex-CIA agent, Mr. Charles Taylor? Is it fair, too much, too lenient or just inconsequential? How about other war/atrocities-indicted personalities such as the current Sudanese president Beshir, the remnants of Ghadhafi, Laurent Gbagbo of Ivory Coast and the Ocampo-4 in Kenya, plus the rest; any message for them from this seemingly stiff sentencing?

Most importantly, is the ICC targeting African leaders who may just be as evil as their counterparts in other parts of the world? If so, is that still a favor from the international community (only) bestow on Africa, since, by riding Africa of bad leaders, it is blessing in disguise for Africans and Africa to be free from these monsters anyway? Isn’t that what they want, that every free thinking human beings crave for?

Are Africans dishonest then when they cry foul of double standard instead of being appreciative and supportive of the whole ICC process–International community paying and doing Africa dirty work for the sake of Africa? Why would anyone care so much and so far about and for Africa–any ulterior motive or just purely humanitarian, altruistic?

Who represents the African voice–assume there is one–the leaders or the common folks? Are leaders the leaders of the common folks or of themselves? How do Pan-Africanists view the whole ICC issue? Humiliating or liberating?

Just wondering how many of Lori Ann Madison of South Sudan and Africa go unnoticed and unexploited year in, year out? Lori Ann is only 6-years old and yet no school is willing to admit/accept her because she is so bright that she wouldn’t fit into any of their systems.

Solution? Homeschooling; because, luckily, her mom is a University professor while dad is an attorney/lawyer. She is already qualified as “the youngest person ever to qualify for the National Spelling Bee ” competition meant for 8-15 years kids.

How many of Africans’ Lori Ann are languishing in abject poverty and illiteracy just because they happened to be/have been born “there”?

With good upbringing and fostering, imagine how much better off humanity would be because of one Lori Ann! Imagine how the world would have been better off if all the Lori Ann’s of the world would have had, or would have, the same chance as this particular one?

Not a big deal, says Charles Darwin, evolution will take care of it: it will increase the birth rate for Lori Ann’s so as to enhance the probability of one lucky Lori Ann for the sake of posterity!!

Money and Power Struggle: New Troubling Development at the Vatican

Posted: May 29, 2012 by PaanLuel Wël Media Ltd. in Commentary

So Jesus was right after all: money is the root cause of all evil.

“The unnamed leaker said the aim was to show how weak Pope Benedict XVI is, the fears of his secretary of state, and to make clear that the “fundamental role of the church is to defend the Gospel, not accumulate power and money.”

The Catholic Church, which is doing lots of good things to the poor masses across the world, need to urgently put their house in order; they are undermining the message and image of Catholicism.

Islam is hijacked by terrorists and now Catholicism is being damaged by child-abuse, money and power. They can’t afford to be spinning from one scandal to the next, unendingly.

Heskey Deng

It’s shameful for government officials to dig the grave for their Country, which means when it gets ill; it will die in the day time, a time when the sun stands in middle of the sky.

Enough is enough, President Kiir must stop to accommodate unproductive, idiotic and useless Ministers Directors and some General in SPLA, who were born with a spoon in their mouth, have hands in looting public money, who even don’t fear God and they are imprudent and claim, they are believers, ‘hell to them’, going to church every Sunday, as they try to swindle God, but they must understand that, going to church everyday can’t make you to be a Christian, I know, God will not forgive them because God is not a simple object to backhander.

For sure, Mr. President, six years of CPA, was right time for you to accommodate your friends, colleagues, in-laws, nephews, cousins, concubine in case of any and more others, but it was past, and they are already richer, they drive world expense vehicle {V-8} like bad boys in United State and also they bought first class houses abroad and whole of Africa’s countries, so president remove them and recruit competent persons to deliver services to innocent civil population.

Realistic, I wonder one day, when I followed the news bulletin on Miraya Radio, the newsreader said, at least five people died of hunger in greater Behr el Ghezal and hundreds of civilians are in bad starvation, I beat my chest twice, and dying off, in couple of minutes, I said what the hell is going on in this country?, because in every hotel I go to watch football, I have to get five to eight people {government officials} from this region accommodated there, but they don’t paid their room fees, they are paid by the government, in this scenario, majority of them are accommodated in hotels, since the government came to Juba in 2005, they are addicted to hotel life spending millions of money on food, beer and sleeping with prostitutes  while their relatives are dying of hunger, shame on them, how will you be happy when your own people are dying now and then, God is not a fool, the blood of those people will be on your neck and your children’s necks because you are prowling his/her share, remember, what goes around, comes around.

Thanks to my closest friend {man}, who revealed to me an inside secret of the government, but sorry I will not mention his name because the futile security personnel will get rid of him, narrated the story of a money burgle General in SPLA, he is a big boss in Bilpham, it’s a funny story, don’t panic if you don’t understand my English grammar because it’s a second language to me, according to him, the high ranked General without name, but I know his name, I’m afraid, he is a wild human being, he can loot me like money, to drive you to the point, the SPLA General pillaged hundreds of millions of Sudanese pounds,  money that he was taking to innocent SPLA soldiers, at the borders, recently, 2009/2010, this is live evidence with many sources, do you know what happened?…this thief {General}, planned his trick, he made emergency trips to SPLA bases, from whom he stole their salary, and then told the SPLA, no money this time, the government sent money abroad to buy jet fighters, anti-air guns and so forth, as you know, we are in the era of referendum, Jan 2011, but we don’t know what Khartoum government planned on referendum, so government  main concern is to equip you early, so that when Khartoum regime rejects the referendum to take place, then we are going to liberate our independence, that ululating chanting of “SPLA Oyee” as sign of readiness, while the big crook just laughed inside.

After many days of ploy, he returned to Juba, as he cleared his throat of looting process, immediately he began enticing those who knew his deals with litter money, then banking; the remaining amounts, sent some of the money to his families lease in Kenya and Uganda, unfortunately unwise forgot his father, mother, grandmother/father and relatives, who were storms of hunger, that resulted to the death of his poor uncle in less than a week.

Although it seems he fulfilled his cheating ego, he was in peg of Security personnel, that naked everything he did to the head of state, in two days, he was called by the president, said I heard your bad deal, from now I release you from that position of Finance, before the president put down his word, he collapsed, lying down in the president’s office on the floor; for a couple of minutes that left the President in a shakable mood with a lot of words flying on his brain, shortly he lifted up his head, which brought the president to normal life. Then, he {looter} vowed several times, and said, Mr. President, if you remove me, my families will die of hunger because I don’t know how to run business, cultivation and even my relatives relationship is too deteriorated, I will die, I beg you {President}, don’t release me, let me continue feeding my families, with these stupidity words, he confused the President of what to say, if he said yes, he brought up corruption, if No, then the man will be shocked forever and Mr. President will be in a problem of murdering, so the President concluded: just go, I will see, by then up to now, no action has been taken against him nor has the President called him again.

In my opinion, it’s ironical, if the president fears to release corrupt Ministers, Generals, and Directors because they are going to die in his office, that means, it’s a government of united individuals without citizens, so Mr. President let them die, we will stand behind you because they are destroying your wise ruling.

It’s hard to understand the ruling of this Country, when you get them, they are southerners outside, but inside, they are not native or Arab, they have black heart, which doesn’t think of development and service delivery, but only thinks of what is going into the mouth.

In conclusion, I have come too to agree with those, who described this government as, a government of self service {Goss}, if it were a true government of south Sudan, the services such as Education, Roads and clear drinking water would have reached the civil population at grassroots.

UN special envoy says Hague court did not give Heglig to Sudan

While this revelation from Special Envoy Menkarios only confirm South Sudan official position that the town is a disputed territory and should be settled through negotiation, it still raise more questions than answers. For instant, where has this “UN Special Envoy” been when South Sudan was driven out of Heglig/Paanthou by, among others, the UN Ban-ki Moon, his boss? Why surfacing now when he should have come out in South Sudan time of need? Will he utter the same conviction in Khartoum? etc

Is the Era of Female Presidency Finally Here in Africa?

This is unexpected move from President Museveni: backing his own bedmate for the highest office in the land. Like many of his own fellow this-country-will-be-damned-if-I-am-not-in-charge Presidents, many were expecting him to anoint one of his child, invariably a son–especially the one heading the elite special forces, to take over or at least one of his trusted buddies within the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

On the positive side, it is apparent the era of female presidency is finally beckoning across Africa, from Liberia to Malawi and hopefully to Uganda if the current opinion poll is not just a Museveni fine-tuned tool to hoodwink the Ugandan public into believing in the inestimable popularity of the First Lady.

Like Putin and Medvedev of Russia, President Museveni and his wife,  Janet Museveni, would exchange places, with Museveni becoming the First Man, right? It would be an interesting scenario. I wonder what political position he/she would carve out for himself/him. Museveni would be damn better off paying a visit to Putin to learn the 101 of such arrangement: he won’t be disappointed.

woe unto the Ugandans! Your national fate has become a private affair of the First Family bedtime’s deliberation!!
