Deputy Mayor of Juba, Thiik Thiik Mayardit: ‘My war with Ateny Wek is that he made some wrong reports on behalf of the President’

Thursday June 20, 2019 (PW) — About two weeks ago or so, many South Sudanese were shocked to hear sensitive accusations traded between Thiik Thiik Mayardit President’s nephew and Ateny Wek Ateny President Kiir’s Press Secretary.

Since then, No any message came out from President office to stop them, or refute their arguments. Therefore, I am kind of wondering where is President Kiir in this nasty battle between his nephew Thiik Machar and his Press Secretary Ateny Wek?

What he, the president knows about these criminal accusations? Is it true he is being misled by his officials and the accusations that his Press Secretary Ateny Wek sold his brothers to National Security is true or false?

Awerial, Lakes State, President Kiir tour of Bahr el Ghazal region13

Wednesday February 27, 2019 (PW) — If President Kiir Mayardit needs to be taken serious by South Sudanese that his intentions are good and that he means peace, then his ongoing tour of Greater Bahr El Ghazel should not have taken place now because it is not a priority. His first visit should have started in the most affected war-torn region of Greater Upper Nile followed by Equatoria. The tour of Greater Bahr El Ghazel should have come last.

This post-war tour should have happened when the designated First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar arrives in Juba. Once these leaders of the warring parties who are now peace partners are with Kiir’s government arrive to Juba, they would held their hands and walk side by side as a sign of a genuine return of peace to the country and they then jointly begin the dissemination of peace, and promotion of reconciliation and national healing. The young country underwent a very traumatizing experience as a result of catastrophic and senseless five years’ war which was ended by the R-ARCSS.

A tour that includes opposition leaders would have sent an assuring message to the people of Greater Upper Nile that peace had indeed returned to the country and that the President and his Vice President were no longer enemies as demonstrated by their joint peace tour. President Kiir Mayardit would have had an opportunity to outline his plans on how he intend to maintain peace which has return to the young nation and how to bring services to the war affected communities.

Gogrial state

June 6, 2017 (SSB) — What we the citizens of South Sudan do not know about this long standing hostile between two most interrelated and intermarriage communities of Apuk and Aguok? Is it a pure communal conflict or a political motivated played by dirty politicians in Juba? What is the position of South Sudan government in this terrible bloodletting tribal conflict? What makes it so hard for members of one community to continue to destroy themselves even though the nation is facing economic constraint, starvation, insecurity and many multiple political problems.

What President Salva Kiir Mayardit did about this as a son of the area since he came to power? I think the conflict is older than Kiir’s leadership but he did not do enough to midget this community conflict as a part of making South Sudan as a peaceful nation? Does the President counts Apuk and Aguok as oppositions to his government since their conflict undermine peace and stability of South Sudan or he treat them differently?

There could be endless and million questions to be asked about this fishy conflict.

Generals Pieng Deng Majok, Paul Malong Awan and Malual Ayom Dor at the Bor Airport during the second liberation of Bor, 2014

May 17, 2017 (SSB) — May 9, 2017 Marks the new beginning in South Sudan political development the day the President of the Republic of South  Sudan 1st Let.Gen.Salva Kiir Mayardit issued a decree to fire Gen.Paul Malong Awan who was then the Chief of General Staff of the SPLA Army. Replacing him with Gen. James Ajongo Mawut of the bravest and  the toughest Generals in the history of South Sudan struggle.

Gen. Ajongo was one of loyalists and patriot generals who stood in face many challenges since the civil war  broke out in 2013. Therefore, no doubt about is commitment and competitiveness to handle his new assignment. However, Change of General Malong had caused havoc because of some controversial administration conflict it’s associated with.

This change was expected by the members of  general public but the way it happened caught many South Sudanese people with great surprise. In fact, it should have not surprise anybody because South Sudan has been ruled by gossip and there is no classified information from top to bottom. The way the President handle was misguided.

February 2, 2017 (SSB) —- “If we do not get our rights in this thick smoke, we will never get anything said an old man. “Similarly, if former Aweil counties do not get their own state while the president is distributing states generously, we will never get our rights. H.E Gen. President Salva Kiir Mayardit has recently crossed his redline to decree more states and former Aweil counties were left out. Therefore, Why Aweil North and Aweil West should not get their overdue separate State?

As South Sudan’s Transitional government of National Unity is implementing peace and addressing South Sudan political problems to bring inclusive peace that is and should be a great time for our leaders to act now. Leaders and elders and traditional chiefs of Aweil North and Aweil West communities should bring their concerns forward and ask the President of the Republic of South to decree their own state of Aweil West with the capital city in Nyamlel if Juba cannot solve political problems of Raja communities.
