Anderson Cooper Comes Out Finally: “The Fact Is, I’m Gay.”

Posted: July 2, 2012 by PaanLuel Wël Media Ltd. in World

The fact is, I’m gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud. I have always been very open and honest about this part of my life with my friends, my family, and my colleagues. In a perfect world, I don’t think it’s anyone else’s business, but I do think there is value in standing up and being counted. I’m not an activist, but I am a human being and I don’t give that up by being a journalist.

This programme is designed to further qualify future leaders in politics, law, economics and administration according to the principles of Good Governance and to prepare them in a praxis-oriented course for their professional life. The programme offers very good graduates with a first university degree the chance to obtain a Master’s degree in disciplines that are of special relevance for the social, political and economic development of their home country. With the knowledge and experience acquired in Germany the scholarship holders should later contribute to the establishment of democratically oriented economic and social systems aimed at overcoming social tensions. In addition, the training at German institutions of higher education should especially qualify the scholarship holders as partners in political and economic cooperation with Germany. With this programme, DAAD intends to contribute to the support of Good Governance and civil society structures in selected partner countries and regions.

South Sudan anti-graft body wants power to prosecute corrupt officials

July 1, 2012 (ABYEI) – South Sudan’s Anti Corruption Commission on Sunday said it is seeking public support to fight against all forms of malpractice, and explaining that it intends to catch all the suspects regardless of their political or social status. No official has ever been prosecuted for corruption in South Sudan since it gained self-rule in 2005. The South Sudan Anti Corruption Commission (SSACC) does not have the power the prosecute, as the power lies with the ministry of justice. To boost the SSACC a judge was appointed to head commission in a bid to strengthen its status. Justice John Getwech Lul, the chairperson of the the country’s anti-corruption commission, told Sudan Tribune on Sunday that they have different methods to catch different officials.

South Sudan Oil Shutdown Chokes Economy

Posted: July 2, 2012 by PaanLuel Wël Media Ltd. in Economy

NAIROBI — Brave or reckless, South Sudan’s decision to shut down its oil production to protest the north has had disastrous consequences for its citizens.  The country’s economy came to a jarring halt in January, when it shut down oil production due to a trade dispute with Sudan. To make up for its own lost revenues from the split with South Sudan, Khartoum had been demanding exorbitant transit fees for the use of its pipelines and port, the only available route for South Sudan to export its oil. Anne Itto, Deputy Secretary of South Sudan’s ruling party, the SPLM, says the south has refused to resume production until Sudan agrees to more reasonable terms.
