MY PAGAK DAILY DIARY: Day 31…

John Pende Ngong in Pagak: Reflection on the Rebel Consultative Conference

THE EASED AFRICA I WANT

DAY 31: The Waiting, the Guessing, the Gazing…into the Sky.

This diary should begin from Day 1 (December 1), the day I appeared in Pagak. Now, there is a reason it should start from where it stopped. One of the reason is my memory is fresher…from the most recent to the most distant experiences. Secondly, of course, I am still confused if we are endjoying (celeb-rating) the beginning of 1015 or just welcoming the ending of 2014. I have been hearing everybody wishing me a “Happy New Year” like ‘witching’ me a ‘Heavy New Year’. That’s why I put it simply during Lokichoggio Airport break on the way from Gambella today: Happy Near Here…!

Day 31:

It takes me 4 hours down in the tent gazing outside for the dawn to break. It actually does break, but never succeeds.

All packed, ready to break the cacophony of the caravan planes ferrying…

Machar appoints top rebel command, state governors

January 1, 2015 (Sudan Tribune) – South Sudanese leader of the rebel SPLM-In-Opposition, Riek Machar, has appointed top military generals to reorganize, command and control their fighters against president Salva Kiir’s government.

In the order released on Thursday, Machar has appointed Major General Simon Gatwech Dual as Chief of General Staff for the rebel forces.

“Pursuant to December 6-12, 2014 Pagak conference resolutions, I, Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, Chairman and Commander-in-Chief, SPLM/SPLA, hereby appoint Major General Simon Gatwech Dual as Chief of General Staff,” reads the 21 December 2014 order seen by Sudan Tribune.

General Gatwech who attended Juba University previously served as deputy director in charge of production department at the army headquarters of Bilpam in the capital, Juba. He later on fell out with president Kiir in 2012, and was arrested and detained for a year. He was released in 2013 without charges.

Before his new assignment he was the opposition’s military governor for Jonglei state, in which his forces control much of the South Sudan’s largest state.

Other top commanders appointed include Major General Peter Gatdet Yaka as deputy chief of general staff for military operations, Major General Gathoth Gatkuoth Hothnyang, deputy chief of general staff for logistics and Major General Gabriel Gatwech Chan, (aka Gabriel Tanginye), as Inspector-General for SPLA.

Also some more commanders are yet to be appointed as deputies to take charge for administration, training and moral and orientation.

APPOINTED GOVERNORS

The rebel leader also appointed governors for some of the 21 newly created federal states for South Sudan.

These include Major General Chayuot Manyang Wuor, governor of Adar (North East Upper Nile) state, Major General Duop Lam, governer of Phou state, Major General Mabor Marier Makol, governor of Rumbek state, Brig General Ruai Kuol Jal, governor of Lich state, Duer Chuol Kur for Sobat state, Tingo Peter Rogbigo Limgbo, governor of Wau state and Marko Lokidor Lochipio, governor of Kapoeta state.

NEW COUNTIES

Machar restructured the newly created Sobat state, re-establishing its 8 counties to include Nasir, Kewer, Thorow, Wanding, Malou, Ulang, Baliet and Akoka.

He appointed Colonel Kang Guoch Deng, as commissioner of the newly created Malou county, Luke Mok Kueth for Nasir county, Colonel Nhial Puoch Jak for Kewer county, John Wiyual Kuach Bithou as commissioner of Thorow county and Isaac Tor for Wanding county.

Machar’s spokesperson, James Gatdet Dak, told Sudan Tribune that consultations were ongoing for appointments of the other “14 governors and creation of additional counties in the other 20 states as necessary as well as appointment of more commissioners.”

He defended the creation of 21 federal states and more counties, saying it was in line of the principle of taking towns closer to the people for better delivery of services and collective decision-making.

Dak further added that the newly appointed officials will organise and establish their respective administrations in the liberated areas, saying their appointments was an important step.

“The appointments of state governors and commissioners is an important step in order to mobilise the people in support of our cause even in government-controlled areas and provide security for the populations in areas under our control,” he said.

“They will also effectively coordinate humanitarian interventions in alleviating the suffering of the affected populations in the country,” stressed the rebel spokesperson.

Observers say the recent political and military measures taken by the two warring factions of the SPLM, show that with the stalemate of the IGAD brokered peace talks the both sides are preparing for a long war ahead.

S. Sudan rebel leader appoints more deputies to chief of general staff

January 2, 2015 (ADDIS ABABA) – South Sudanese former vice-president, Riek Machar, turned leader of the rebel SPLM-In-Opposition, has appointed two more senior rebel commanders as deputies to the chief of general staff of the rebel forces.

In the orders released on Friday, Machar has appointed Major General Elias Lino Jada Kulang as deputy chief of general staff for administration. He also appointed Major General Martin Terento Kenyi as deputy chief of general staff for moral and orientation.

The appointments, dated 21 December, were released a day after announcement of the appointment of the chief of general staff and two other deputies plus the Inspector-General for SPLA.

In the first orders released on Thursday, Machar appointed Major General Simon Gatwech Dual as the chief of general staff, with Major General Peter Gatdet Yak, Major General Gathoth Gatkuoth Hothnyang and Major General Gabriel Gatwech Chan (Gabriel Tangyinya) for military operations, logistics and Inspector-General, respectively.

Appointment for deputy chief of general staff for training is yet to be released.

APPOINTMENTS REVOKED

Rebel leader’s spokesman, James Gatdet Dak, told Sudan Tribune on Friday that appointments for governor of the newly created Sobat state and five county commissioners had been revoked due to “irregularities.”

In the orders for the appointments released on Thursday, Machar appointed Duer Chuol Kur as governor of Sobat state.

He also appointed Colonel Kang Guoch Deng as commissioner of the newly created Malou county, Luke Mok Kueth for Nasir county, Colonel Nhial Puoch Jak for Kewer county, John Wiyual Kuach Bithou as commissioner of Thorow county and Isaac Tor for Wanding county.

However Dak said there was still a need to carry out further consultations with the communities concerned.

“The Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of SPLM/SPLA, Dr Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, has revoked some of the earlier appointments on Sobat state. Irregularities have been discovered in the selection of candidates for positions,” he said.

“Representatives of communities in the said state and counties have asked for adequate consultations in selecting a governor and their respective counties commissioners,” Dak further explained.

Earlier, the opposition leader’s spokesperson explained the importance of establishing a civil administration in the rebel controlled areas and beyond, saying they would mobilise the populations in support of the movement as well as provide security and coordinate humanitarian interventions.

Machar’s rebel group has been fighting against president Salva Kiir’s government for over one year, accusing the latter of dictatorship and instigating the war. Kiir accused him of planning a military coup.

Peace talks mediated by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has stalled in Addis Ababa with expected resumption in mid-January.

Observers said the two warring parties have prepared for expected worst violence this dry season as both sides have been organizing and arming their fighters during the past wet season.

A Fresh Start for the Distressed Nation

January 2, 2015 (SSB) — It’s a new start once again: Twenty- fourteen has gone with all of it belonging and it’s time we start a new and fresh year, 2015. While you’re all going about celebrating the end of 2014 as well as welcoming the New Year, 2015 in your own ways, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all, my families, friends, acquaintances and not to forget my foes, Happy belated Christmas and Happy New Year. The memories and achievements, I shall always cherish, of twenty fourteen were possible because of your surrounding. Your present in my twenty fourteen, as well as my life, as been tremendously tangible and I have you to thank for all that. Happy New Year!

From what I had learnt last year (2014), your contribution, as family, friends, Acquaintances, in my life has been huge and I thought it was time I reciprocate the favour. I have found a message worth sharing with you. Wait I will tell you what it is. I have found myself a personal saviour and I believe it could be yours as well once you also embrace it. I will not be dragging this long and I am saying it right now. My newfound saviour, in my life, is the “Power of Now”.

Now what do I mean by the “Power of Now”, I believe many of you may be asking this question right now. Well wait, I will explain that to you in a moment but let me ask you some few questions. Have you ever find yourself thinking about what happened to you in the past and the more you think about it the more it makes you angry? Do you easily feel offended once people say something negative about you tribe, faith, ideology and the list is long? Have you ever dismiss what you suppose to do/ enjoyed in a day in hope that good things are yet to come?

Well, you should know from now on that you are identifying yourself with your mind, rather than your conscience state, if any of the above things do occurs to you. Mind can’t exist in the absent of time. The mind goes back to the past for self-definition and self worth. With it come the ego and your class along the societal ladder. If something threaten that believed, or run contrary to what your mind believed about you, the mind invited deep pain body within you and your mind will therefore cause you to become angry. This happen because something in you is refusing to agree with what you’re thinking, or refusing to accept what happened to you in the past and it’s therefore taken as a threat.

The same is also true about how your mind perceive the future. It always turns the present moment into a mere stepping-stone into the future hence rendering it, the “Now”,as useless and worthless. You should know that there is nothing wrong with hope and planning for the future but once the present moment become a time that need to be wasted and treated with less consideration, now we have the problem. There is no problem when planning while giving love and time to the people who matters to you the most, but you will all agree with me that putting your entire time into work while neglecting your beloved one is nothing but a bad choice. Mind plays its timecard properly and that is where it finds meaning in itself. It’s can’t exist in the present of present time, the “Now” and it’s threaten by “Now”. Without time our minds would refers to nothing and we would always be happy.

Now I want you to close your eyes and ask yourself this question, what is my next thought going to be. You become more alert than ever before, and if you were eating by now you will smell the flavour of your food lingering in the air around you. If you were taking shower/bath you should smell all fragrances in that soap you might be using. This state you find yourself in is the “Now”, your conscience state, and the peaceful state. I know this because I have also tried it as well. The “power of now” is nothing but living with truth about you while taking what rightfully belong to you. For instances, the smell of the soap.

Our tribes, faith, customs, ideologies and all other definitive aspect of human being are very crucial in how we live our live. Because of them we are able to tell great stories of strength, love, companion, hope or endurance but there is nothing as important as the “Now”. That is because the importance of all those things listed above lie in the times that is of less use to us. Embracing “Now” allowed us to plan for the future while enjoying what “Now” is to offer; to accept whatever it is that didn’t go according to plan in the past hence causing us little or no pain; make us more alert and more peaceful as we are protected from negative thinking that often results in the wasteful leaking of useful energy.

You have been given yet another three hundred and sixty five blank days to write you live once again. You can make it a year of peace, prosperity and all good things you could ever think about. However, you can choose to live yours free from time and mind. It’s a message worth embracing and I urge you all to add it into your “must do” list of twenty fifteen and it will not be long before you harvest the fruit of “Now”. Take it and set yourself free.

“You in the Diaspora always seem to ‘know it all’ and have so much to say: giving your “thoughts, analyses, theories, solution, views and resolutions.” Pay more attention to being productive citizens in your adoptive countries. I have nothing against any of you in the diaspora personally, but it’s the sense of patronism and Mr. Know- it- all-I-have-come-to-save-you-from-yourselves attitude many people in the Diaspora always seem to have.” –by Deng Arok Thon—the son of the Late Arok Thon Arok, 12 May 2012.

South Sudanese in the Diaspora need to desist from discussing South Sudanese politics

Kur Wël Kur

January 2, 2015 (SSB) — A number of South Sudanese single young men and women migrated to western countries. In USA, 3,800 lost boys settled, among which, a handful has married; and God has blessed almost all these marriages with children, some lost boys are blessed with five children. In Australia, the lost boys who came here unmarried have married, with only a few still lingering and looking for compatible partners.

Australia, New Zealand and Canada, processed and accepted many young families’ cases. Most of these families, especially in Australia, bore children, with at least one child per a family, some families are blessed with 7 or 9 children.

I do appreciate the power of God, which has shone over and blessed us with children; however, my concern comes in the some corners of our present and future lives. These corners include: lack of unity as migrants (Africans in particular Dinka communities), lack of community infrastructures: church building, Communities centres and age care facilities. Youth crimes and mistakes (school dropouts): Alcoholism, gang related violence, crimes against women and violence toward general population. Traffic offences.

Lack of unity as migrants (Dinka communities)

Too much hatred and bitterness simmer on social sites such as Facebook and news/opinions sites such as paanluel Wël, borglobe and New Sudan vision. These kind of bitterness and hatred originate from communities here in diaspora and at home; my country men and women waste their valuable time on nonsensical topics, topics such as why is my Boma misspelled? Why these people try to dominate us? Or I don’t want this name; I want that name!

These questions reel in and out of our social sites.

A friend of mine has become an activist of divisions, so he tags his likes on divisive topics to prattle on stupid and minute matters. His thinking capacity kills me every time I read his wasteful posts and I have died of his writings several times.

However, I acknowledge that some topics worth discussing. I stumbled on a topic about uncle Majier’s position in the war of liberation, his contribution to the course and the cause of his death; I sieved two gentlemen’s comments out of hundred plus comments. These fine minds instilled the hope of a better day for this community, of a united community, of a pure justice and of the best nation in me! The gentlemen go by the names Macar Buol and Paanluel Wël (the chief editor of Paanluel Wël blog).

Apart from the rare and too demanding topics like the one I cited above, the rests edge away more important concerns in western countries. I believe, we in the Western countries, missed the point every time we try. We must submerge in an epiphany that the future of our children belongs to these countries and it does not belong to South Sudan. With this ‘great realisation’ (epiphany), we will start to slow down on South Sudan’s politics and commence to pay attentions to the politics and hatred towards us in our children’s countries. If we think and act in term our closeness in these countries and forget our differences in our country of births, we will succeed in whatever we aspire and admire.

Important concerns in western countries

Lack of community infrastructures: church building, Communities centres and age care facilities

A cousin of mine touched this topic in his article entitled “Vulnerability and Poor Lifestyle of South Sudanese Abroad” and I commented on his article as such:

“Mameer, I like when you listed the projects we can afford as communities in Australia! Remember, a population of one thousand members (easy for South Sudanese communities in Adelaide, Melbourne and maybe in Perth) can raise a thousand dollar every day if each member contribute a dollar a day and that will be 30,000 dollars a month!! If we do this, the government can match this amount with the equivalent amount!!

The church members can do this too; 2 dollars for each member every Sunday for 400 members (infants included because their parents can pay the allocated amount) can raise 800 dollars a week or a Sunday! With this constant income, the congregation can afford to pay for the church (building)! Thanks for the article!”

Exactly, that’s how we are supposed to pay for any property, be it a church building, age care facility or a community centre.

On 19/12/2014 (Saturday), Bor youth leadership in South Australia (S.A) held a meeting for the election of new officials. I had a privilege of making a few remarks! I targeted the youth in their teens, early and middle twenties. I told them that some of them will retire to age care facilities before their lives end because Australia is practicing a world class medicine and nutrition. Unlike some of us who came to Australia when we were in our late twenties and early thirties.

I told them to take their education seriously and avoid school dropouts, gangs related problems in order to graduate as nurses, engineers, psychologists, social workers, just to name but the very few! After their education, they must embark on the ways of bailing our communities out of ignorance, illiteracy, and prejudices from other races. This will lead to a respectable development of our communities. Otherwise, they must prepare for a total humiliation; a humiliation at public age care centres, their nappies will be changed last or changed after a couple of days!!

Alcoholism and traffic offences

Alcohol has shredded many families in diaspora. In Australia, most cases of domestic violence are caused by issues related to alcohol. Many young people have lost licences and are convicted because of alcohol. In Australia, any percentage of alcohol above 0.05 blood alcohol concentration (BAC), receives a zero tolerance from the authority (police).

Consequences involving drink-drive can be severed; these include disqualification of driving licence and prison terms for serial offenders.

Disobeying traffic rules such as driving without licences, making wrong turns or not complying with the traffic lights, attract brutal fines (monetary) or jail terms if offences become habitual. Any family member convicted or restricted by law to do or not do certain things, places high pressures on their relationships (marriages).

Look out for comments from some members of mainstream population about our children’s violence and crimes in part 2….

The Flight of Children: One Year of Hell in SOUTH SUDAN

January 2, 2015 (SSB) — What counts the most in humans existence are: access to opportunities and ability to live a life free from other people’s gross interferences. Unlike any other State in the Region, independence of South Sudan was won after enormous sacrifices. And in the dawn of our nationhood, millions rejoiced and sung ululations as a way to thank God for having guided us through the many years of despicable hardships. But to the dismay of millions, the Nation was turned into enterprise where some rednecks lynched the citizens in cold bloods. As the clock turned against all odds, South Sudanese worldwide committed much of their times and money to gain modern education. Unfortunately, Rebel-turned politicians chose to stay within tribal quarters, and that became the origin of SOUTH SUDAN’s many problems.

First, it is critical that South Sudanese leaders and those aspiring to be next generation leaders think about the importance of having an independent State. The fruits of independent South Sudan have been harvested by few, and only few who selfishly capsized the Nation at the time when all the citizens in foreign nations were about to return to South Sudan. Rewinding back to those dark days, the long Peace negotiation between the SPLM/SPLA and the Government of Sudan gave birth to what is now the Republic of South Sudan, and after the SPLA was maintained to protect/secure interest of the marginalized people of the then Southern Sudan, now South Sudan. This is to say, fundamental preparations were put in place by the Southern based Rebel Movement(SPLM/A), and citizens were so relieved from all sorts of anxieties. And for sure, things did settled for a while and people begun thinking about the restructuring the SUDAN and its tiny parts that were incompatible with the national System of governance. As a matter of facts, not everything went as spelled out by the Comprehensive Peace Agreement(CPA). But majority of South Sudanese were very satisfied with what they got because independence/self-governing from rests of the SUDAN was more than a victory in the minds of people who never had a Country.

Some 5 years later, villages throughout Southern Sudan, now South Sudan were death camps, and social fabrics were destroyed by senseless rivalries among various communities(Counties in Lakes State are still fighting themselves). And as we speak, millions of children are desperately living in the horrors of humans-made famines, thousands have perished and all younger children are entering second-year of the WAR without schools. The awful part is this: children who were too young when SUDAN’s long civil war came to an end grew up in volatile environments, and have now been dragged into the ongoing war. How much joys has physical separation from Arab-north Sudan brought to South Sudanese?

Despite the huge Oil reserve, civilians are enduring hunger and sicknesses, conditions that should not be occurring in an Oil rich nation like the Republic of South Sudan. There is this saying: ‘Oil is a curse’, but this does not fit perfectly in the case of South Sudan. The drop in Oil prices worldwide should give third World nations a sense of security, and to eliminate dependence on Crude Oils for growth and development.

From day one, there has been unbalanced political posture across South Sudan, and for too long. The masses were sidelined, their voices were eliminated, intimidated or bribed to stop pointing out all the bad policies by the Government. And such scheme of monopolizing politics has caused citizens their Lives, Liberty and Properties. That is, those who spoke against bad governance were booked in as trouble-makers, and denied access to decent jobs or their security not guaranteed. What do we have now? The raging war should by all accounts be considered as an accident because Parties(Salva Kiir and Riek Machar) who are on the standoff were the very same people who created horrible political environment such that they stay in power indefinitely.

Because 2015 election was going to be the first of its kind in the Republic of South Sudan, the Cronies who ruined South Sudan by their collective effort topped the list of possible candidates, and the evils in them could no longer withstand the heat. We(South Sudanese) have never seen anything like free political contest in our lives, and some inner circles, mostly the goons and stooges who surrounded rival politicians started calling themselves Failures & Rebels, and there came the cocking of rifles when Contenders broke the ties that linked them.

The whole Nation is bleeding because tribal politics reached a boiling point right before presidential Aspirants found comfort zones.

The truth to the matter is this: our leaders never had prosperity and stability of South Sudan in their hearts and minds. In a nation like South Sudan, building the State from the bottom-up would have done a great deal. Instead, young children were left in a desperate situation, and many of them opted to join armed groups, most of whom promised the inexperienced kids a better life or some impossible change. From Renk to Narus, Raga to Pochalla, members of the parliaments(Central & states Assemblies) resides in Juba, their immediate family members lives in Ethiopia, Kenya & Uganda! When will they know that they are leading an independent State?

The flight of children in the war-torn South Sudan; artwork by Deng Forbes

The flight of children in the war-torn South Sudan; artwork by Deng Forbes

There is no question, South Sudanese politicians have no taste for the State despite them sitting on billions of dollars! All they have in minds is defrauding governments(states and central Government alike), forming fake companies, creating projects that cannot be seen, and awarding contracts to their relatives whom they have delegated recording-keeping. It is now up to South Sudanese, both in the governments and in the bush, and who are licking the dripping Oil to acknowledge the blowbacks caused by self-made political rifts. While physical separation of South Sudan from Sudan is a visible reality in the face of the world, the world’s newest State continue to be attached to Sudan in many ways(Pipeline running through Sudan and security)!

Ever since, South Sudan has been embroiled in fierce battles with Rebels(SSLA and SSDM/A among others). All of those rebels received trainings, foods and weaponries from the Sudanese Government in Khartoum. As of now, the very same Khartoum based regime that takes Oil’s transport fees has been identified as the major supplier of Rebels group under the overall command of Dr. Riek Machar(SPLM-In-Opposition). On the other hands, Government of South Sudan has been linked to the Rebels fighting the Sudanese Government in Khartoum. These proxy wars are destroying the vulnerable nation of SOUTH SUDAN. And here come the chance to ask: who are we in the face of the Khartoum Islamic Regime?

The biggest fear is to see these Giant Political Monsters come together at the end of Peace negotiation process. Anyone who has followed both President Salva Kiir and his former Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar must be wary and worried. As soon as they(KiiRiek) get their power sharing together, SOUTH SUDAN would be a renewed Totalitarian State(2005-2012).

Never should we(citizens) be deceived that a peace between KiiRiek is something good for the Republic. In their/under their leadership, their opponents( Gatluak Gai & George Athor) were eliminated/murdered at the times when peace was about to be realized. The World within our reach (IGAD, EU & the US) can do better than that.

But, failure of those influential governments and Regional Bodies to contain the conflict is another excuse for the fake Peace to be supported, and agreed upon by the warring parties.

Oil or no Oil is none of the civilians’ business. The major concern as of now is for our soil to rest from senseless carnage. The toxins in the air and below our beloved Land is too much to be borne by the living. If anyone, anybody from the so-called powerful States is humane enough, then KiiRiek issue should have been dealt with accordingly(lock them out of the Interim Government).

The saddest part  is this: the Peace negotiation in Ethiopia is an empty promise to those lost in the conflict and the young kids who suffered the most while the professional Killers toured the world , and in search of a second chance to rob the citizens of South Sudan of the produces of their hard earned Nation.

If observers don’t take extra caution, more deaths is likely to be seen within the prescribed Interim Period and shortly before the Interim Period come to an end. In other words, if KiiRiek project is not terminated sooner, the proposed election would be a nightmare because KiiRiek’s supporters would not be able to obey terms and conditions of the Agreement. Never waste searching for Devils or Spirit of God to intervene. Act now or face the consequences of the redesigned tribal hates!

Moreover, search for stable SOUTH SUDAN must be sought within the souls of suffering children because every child deserve a conducive environment for growth and development. For a good full year now, South Sudanese children throughout the Region, and in IDPs Camps in South Sudan have been subjected to unbearable conditions. The ongoing Peace in Addis Ababa, adjourned till 2015 can only be reached if warring parties are held to standards necessary to obtain Peace. The last consultation by Rebels (Pagak) meant nothing to the desperate citizens, but continuation of WAR.

The so-called we are underrepresented must be buried forever! Not every village is entitled to have a daughter or a son as President of the Republic, Governor, national minister or state minister. Empty pride and sense of entitlement is killing South Sudan because citizens have been spoiled to the point that everyone want to work for the governments. Having seen how the governments(Central & states) officials spent most of their times attending birthdays parties, funerals, graduations and wedding ceremonies, the entire nation wanted to follow the suit.

In sum, SOUTH SUDAN has seen more than enough, particularly children born after the historic Peace Agreement(CPA) are being lost in big numbers. Let’s have life and soul of every South Sudanese who have perished in 2013 & 2014 in our hearts. Again, prayers alone cannot repair all that were destroyed nationwide. As dirty as politics is, both the SPLM-intra dialogue in Arusha, Tanzania, and Consultation by the SPLM-in-Opposition(Pagak) have yielded nothing. Therefore, getting to work together and dealing away with claims made by both sides would ease the tension, and return the beautiful Nation of SOUTH SUDAN to where it should be. The bloodshed seen toward the end of 2013 and early 2014 is embedded in shortsightedness by leaders who rely too much on tribal political Advisers. The only hope is for the younger generation to divorce tribal politics and forge a new economics, political and social cultures that would look at SOUTH SUDAN as a monolithic Society. That is, diversity in one is the way to rebuild the badly ruined Nation. Let the New Year restore hopes for the psychologically tortured kids nationwide!

January 2, 2015 (SSB) — The raining bullets and flowing bloods around Rumbek never move Governor Matur Chut, and he continue to go about his duties as if nothing tragic is happening in his state. Is that the kind of legacy and leadership that President Salva Kiir Mayardit want to leave behind? We South Sudanese did not choose secession in order to destroy ourselves and cultivate a political culture whereby leaders rule with iron fist. It is so heartbreaking to see citizens of Lakes state rushing themselves to graves at the time when the Nation is dealing with major armed rebellion.

First, let recognize that the security situation got worse than any time before, and the records at our disposal is a living evidence that nobody can deny. From day one that General Matur Chut took charge of Lakes state, civilians start acting contrary because he was nominated by President Salva Kiir to inflict the most severe punishments on civilians, a communist style that nobody want to see. Is that the way to redesign the Society that has been through many conflicts? It was a terrible mistake for the citizens of Lakes state to allow President Salva Kiir to abuse and overstep his constitutional duties. We all know or should know that South Sudan Transitional Constitution only gave President powers to intervene in states’ affairs when national security is being threatened. Why did President Salva Kiir choose to go for Lakes state’s  Governor and not Jonglei’s Governor? We know for sure that part of the Jonglei state was under siege by notorious Rebel leader David Yau Yau of the South Sudan Democratic Movement/Army(SSDM/A-Cobra faction), and the President took a low stand on what was a national threat. Let’s be realistic because South Sudan is not going anywhere, anytime soon. We have earned it, and it is there to stay for all the generations to come unless something else happened.

Secondly, the kind of leadership shown by General Matur Chut when he took over the affairs of Lakes state helped fuel the tiny conflicts that are part of cattle-rearing communities. Back then, communities used to cooperate with the government, and urged culprits to surrender themselves to authorities. This has been the norm throughout South Sudan, had existed before there was central governments. Now, the opposite is true because civilians no longer report who killed who, and instead choose to stay within their quarters and go for revenge if conditions allow. There is no way that national leaders would expect to see decent leadership from youth when their own is embedded in and around bullying. It is unnecessary that General Matur Chut be the instigator/perpetrator of the violence seen in Lakes state, but the kind of response and style of leadership he fostered tells the world that he has nothing to offer.

Thirdly, General Matur Chut is the other side of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, and if people can agree on that, then Lakes state is likely to see even more deaths in the coming months. We know for sure that General Matur Chut is acting within prescribed directives by the President. The very same style used by President Salva Kiir is being used by Governor Matur Chut (sacked the entire Cabinet and walks majestically as if nothing has happened). Without concrete solution/well structured intervention, warring clans would intensify their revenge campaigns, something that folks in that part of the Country are best at. Why would President of the Republic put his good name in such a regrettable part of the history. Where there is a blame, there is a doubt, and all things need to be aligned in order for the unknown to be unearthed. That is to say, civilians are not acting in good faith, and Governor Matur Chut does not has clean hands in the ongoing madness.

Therefore, President Salva Kiir Mayardit must rethink the choice he made. As of now, Lakes state is in need of a new look, a better way to address all that went wrong. There has been too many killings around Rumbek, and that has to end if South Sudan really want to move forward. My sincere condolences to families who have lost their love ones. May their souls rest in Peace while the Nation of Junub Ë Sudan is searching for true leaders who would put citizens first! The views expressed here are of the Author, and meant to encourage decent leadership throughout the Junub Ë Sudan(Republic of South Sudan). Leaders come and go, but those who dedicate their lives in serving others do make good history. Junub Ë Sudan now, and forever. True Peace yah Junubin!

Personal Forgiveness and National Reconciliation is very Important in 2015 in the Republic of South Sudan

January 2, 2015 (SSB) — First and foremost, I am wishing all South Sudanese happy New Year both within and outside South Sudan, as we are celebrating New Year after conclusion of 2014 the outgoing year, then there is need to consider these two related words “forgiveness and reconciliation” as the only option to heal the wound that is indicted to us by politicians we already experience the cost of this baseless war across the country especially in greater Upper-Nile.

We need to forgive ourselves as reach this year successfully. What does forgiveness stand for? To forgive means to restore a bond of love and communion when there has been a rupture. Sin ruptures our relationship with God and others, as also do offenses taken and given among people.

When the bond is broken with other people, we tend to objectify them and judge them, not seeing them as persons, but only as objects of our anger and hurt. This is our sinful reaction. We categorize people in terms of their transgression against us. The longer we nurture the anger and alienation, the more deeply the resentment takes hold in our heart, and the more it feeds on our soul. Resentment is a cancer that will destroy us if we don’t forgive! It also leaks out and damages our relations with others when we slander and gossip about those who have offended us and try to draw others to our own side.

Of course, no one should want to hear such things but am trying my best to emphases on every citizen despite of their status of religious and political arena to dearly accept the ideal of forgiveness and reconciliation. Am well informed about our nation South Sudan on trauma game and jealous policy which are not so developmental to our people, this has been caused of tribal crisis in the nation.

Forgiveness means overlooking the sin or transgression, and restoring a bond of love. It does not mean justifying the offensive action or accepting it as right, nor does it mean justifying one’s own anger or sinful reaction. Forgiveness means laying aside our judgments of the other person and our own sinful reactions, and accepting others for who they are.

transcending the trappings of hatred and war

transcending the trappings of hatred and war

God’s forgiveness of us and our sins against Him is unconditional and absolute. God does not reject us, objectify us, or bear anger or resentment against us. I think our projections onto God of our own issues and judgments against ourselves when we go wrong. God does not punish us. Rather, by alienating ourselves from God, we punish ourselves and ascribe this punishment to Him.

We turn in on ourselves in anger and self-hatred, and thus shatter our personhood, cutting ourselves off from His love. However, South Sudan was actually hamper by stories of evil practice but God forgive us only to restore peace in our country and gave full independent that we are enjoying now.

By asking God for forgiveness, we open ourselves to His love and acceptance, His grace and compassion. These were there already, but we neglected them. By confessing our sins, we surrender these areas of our lives where we have justified our self-alienation from God. Repentance means not only turning away from sin, but also turning to God. Judas was remorseful for his sin but hanged himself. We need not only to be remorseful, but also to open ourselves to God.

We have to make sure that our country is totally free from evil practicing and sincerely allows Almighty to take over His people. Forgiveness is more vital than anything. It is very importance to forget whatever we did wrong to ourselves and turn to new page.

If we forgive someone, we need to be open to reconciliation, if possible. Reconciliation is forgiveness in action the actual restoration of the interpersonal bond between two people, in mutual acceptance of each other for who each one is. For instance we have to reconcile ourselves as people of South Sudan in-order to be living in peaceful situation as we reach 2015 environment.

We need to throw out our differences and sincerely agree to lives as one people and one nation as president Kiir always found of this point this what reconciliation mean.
